The Council of the Federation Supports Recommendations from Nurses

See the following excerpt from "In the Loop" regarding the RNAO's BPG "Assessment and Management of Foot Ulcers for People With Diabetes." Very exciting!

Last Friday, in Halifax, the Council of the Federation, comprised of Canada's premiers and territorial leaders, met to discuss how to further strengthen Medicare.

The premiers received a report from the Working Group on Health Care Innovation, 'From Innovation to Action,' which focuses on three areas of priority: clinical practice guidelines; team-based models; and health human resource management.

RNAO was delighted to be a leading member of the clinical practice guidelines working group, in collaboration with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).The report recommends the adoption of RNAO's Guideline for the 'Assessment and Management of Foot Ulcers for People With Diabetes.'

The Council of Federation's support of this recommendation is a first important step in recognizing that transformation of our country's health-care system must be grounded in evidence to improve patient care.

RNAO applauded Canada's premiers for putting this principle at the forefront of their health-care mission. RNAO also urged the Prime Minister to get back to the table and commit to signing a Health Accord in 2014.

This is a major recommendation coming from the CNA, CMA and RNAO
